About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, they are created by baking natural dyes onto agate to form intricate patterns. These beads are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th centuries AD. Despite their historical significance, many aspects of their creation, such as the specific components of the dyes used, remain a mystery. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. The various baked patterns are thought to hold different meanings, with the circular "eye" designs being particularly prized. In Tibetan culture, these beads are considered talismans for wealth and prosperity, cherished and passed down through generations as valuable adornments. In recent years, their popularity has surged in China, where they are referred to as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads). Numerous replicas created using similar techniques are now available, but authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain highly coveted and rare.
