About Warring States Beads:

The "Warring States Beads" refer to beads made during China's Warring States period, approximately from the 5th to the 3rd century BCE, before the unification by the Qin Dynasty. The oldest glass in China, dating back to the 11th to 8th century BCE, was found in Luoyang, Henan Province. However, it was during the Warring States period that glass products began to be widely distributed. Early Warring States beads were primarily made of faience, a ceramic material decorated with glass patterns. Later, fully glass beads were also produced. Common designs included "Seven Star Beads" and "Eye Beads," characterized by their spotted patterns. While the glassmaking techniques and design elements were influenced by Western Asia, particularly Roman glass, the materials used in Chinese glass of this era were distinct, showcasing the advanced glassmaking techniques of ancient China. Warring States beads hold significant historical value as the beginning of Chinese glass history and are also highly valued for their diverse designs and vibrant colors.
