About Ancient Chinese Eye Beads:
Known as "Warring States Beads," these glass beads were crafted during China's Warring States period, from approximately the 5th to 3rd centuries BCE. The earliest glass objects in China, dating back to the 11th to 8th centuries BCE, were discovered in Luoyang, Henan Province. However, it was during the Warring States period that glass products began to be widely used. Early Warring States beads primarily featured faience, a ceramic material decorated with glass designs, eventually evolving into fully glass beads. Common patterns included "Seven Star Beads" and "Eye Beads," characterized by their distinctive spots. While many design elements and glass-making techniques were influenced by Western Asia and Roman glass, the composition of Chinese-made glass from this era is unique, showcasing the sophistication of ancient Chinese glassmaking. These beads are not only historically significant but also beloved for their intricate designs and vibrant colors.
