About Dzi Beads (Striped Dzi Beads):

Dzi beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, they are crafted from agate with natural dyes burnt onto the surface to create intricate patterns. These beads are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to the allure of these antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Different burnt patterns on the beads are thought to hold various meanings, with those featuring the round "eye" design being particularly prized.

In Tibet, Dzi beads are cherished as amulets of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations as valuable adornments. Recently, they have gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (heavenly beads). Many replicas created using similar techniques are available, but authentic ancient Dzi beads remain highly rare and sought after.

Difference Between Dzi Beads and Striped Dzi Beads:

Within the category of Dzi beads, those featuring striped patterns instead of "eye" motifs are specifically referred to as Striped Dzi or "Sen Zhu" (line beads).
