About Millefiori:

In Africa, Millefiori beads are known as "chachaso." The term "Millefiori" is Italian for "a thousand flowers." When exclusive trade with the East collapsed, and Bohemian glass dominated the European market, Venice faced significant economic challenges. In response, Venetian artisans developed a variety of decorative glass. Millefiori glass beads are a prime example of this innovation. Merchants who already traded beads with Africa created cylindrical glass beads from Millefiori glass, which were then transported and traded as beads in Africa.
