About Millefiori:

Millefiori, meaning "a thousand flowers" in Italian, is also known as Chachaso in Africa. Following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venetian glassmakers created colorful decorative glass as a countermeasure. Millefiori glass is a prime example of this innovation. Traders who were already engaging in bead trade with Africa crafted tube-shaped beads from this glass, which were then transported to Africa as trade beads.
