About Millefiori:
In Africa, these beads are known as "Chacha So." The term "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. The creation of Millefiori glass was a response by Venetian glassmakers to the economic impact caused by the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market. Merchants who were already trading beads with Africa fashioned cylindrical glass beads from Millefiori glass, which then became popular trade beads in Africa.
