About Roman Eye Beads:

Era: 100 BCE to 300 CE

Origin: Alexandria (modern-day Egypt)

Technique: Core wrapping and application method (a technique where molten glass is wound around a metal rod coated with a release agent, and other colored glass is applied in polka dot patterns)

The glass crafted during the ancient Roman and Sassanian Persian periods is known as "Roman Glass." Ancient Roman merchants, who actively traded glass crafts, created beads in various designs to cater to the preferences of their buyers.

Among these Roman glass beads, those with eye-like patterns are called "Eye Beads." These beads were believed to have protective powers and were used as amulets, recreating the ancient Phoenician beads from even earlier centuries. The Phoenician beads date back several hundred years before the ancient Romans.

It is fascinating to note that ancient Romans admired beads even older than their time, illustrating that the history of beads is truly intertwined with the history of humanity.
