In Africa, they are known as Chachaso. Millefiori means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East, Bohemian glass dominated the European market, dealing a significant blow to Venice's trade economy. In response, Venice created a variety of decorative glass, with Millefiori glass being a notable example. Merchants, who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical glass beads from Millefiori and traded them in Africa as trade beads.
