Millefiori, meaning "a thousand flowers" in Italian, are beads created in Venice as a response to the collapse of exclusive trade with the Orient and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market. These colorful decorative glass beads were crafted to boost Venice's trade economy. These beads, also known as Chachaso in Africa, were transformed into cylindrical glass beads by merchants who already traded with Africa, and they were transported there as trade beads.
