Origin: Venice
Technique: Mosaic application or mosaic inlay
In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachaso." The term Millefiori means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the domination of the European market by Bohemian glass, Venice responded by creating colorful decorative glass, leading to the invention of Millefiori glass. Merchants, who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical Millefiori beads from this glass and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
