Millefiori, meaning "a thousand flowers" in Italian, is a famous glasswork technique developed in Venice as a response to the economic challenges posed by the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the rise of Bohemian glass in the European market. Venetian merchants created these colorful decorative glasses, which were then crafted into tube-shaped beads and traded in Africa, where they are known as Chachaso.
