Following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the domination of the European market by Bohemian glass, Venice created these colorful decorative glasses to revitalize their trade economy. These Millefiori glasses were then crafted into tube-shaped beads by merchants who traded them in Africa as trade beads.
