In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachaso." The term "Millefiori" is Italian for "a thousand flowers." After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the rise of Bohemian glass dominating the European market, Venice faced a significant economic downturn. In response, Venetian artisans created vibrant decorative glass, prominently represented by Millefiori glass. Traders who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa crafted tube-shaped beads from this glass, which were then transported to Africa as trade beads.
