Known as "chacha so" in Africa, Millefiori is an Italian term meaning "a thousand flowers." After losing its exclusive trade with the East and facing economic challenges from the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venice created these colorful decorative glass pieces as a countermeasure. Traders, already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical glass beads from these Millefiori glass pieces and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
