About Millefiori:
In Africa, Millefiori beads are known as "Chachaso." The term "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the domination of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venice sought to counteract this economic impact by creating richly colored decorative glass. Millefiori glass became a hallmark of this endeavor. Traders who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa crafted cylindrical glass beads from this decorative glass, which were then transported as trade beads to Africa.
