About Etched Carnelian:

Period: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE

Etched Carnelians from the Indus Valley Civilization are created by applying a natron liquid derived from plants to the carnelian and then firing it at low temperatures of about 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. These beads have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, but it is believed that they were made in the Indus River region and transported via land and sea routes.
