About Etched Carnelian Beads:
Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
These beads originate from the Indus Valley Civilization. Patterns were etched onto carnelian using a natron solution derived from plants, and then fired at low temperatures of around 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that these beads were made in the Indus River region and transported via land and sea routes.
