About Millefiori:

Era: Late 1800s to early 1900s

In Africa, these beads are known as Chachaso. "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. As exclusive trade with the East collapsed and Bohemian glass took over the European market, Venice, seeking to mitigate the economic impact, created these vibrantly decorated glass pieces. Millefiori glass became emblematic of this era. Traders, already conducting bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical glass beads from this Millefiori glass and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
