About Millefiori:

Origin: Venice
Technique: Mosaic application or folded mosaic method
In Africa, Millefiori beads are known as "Chachasso." The term "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venice, which suffered a significant economic blow, developed a variety of decorative glass as a countermeasure. The quintessential product of this effort is Millefiori glass. Traders who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa crafted tube-shaped glass beads from these Millefiori pieces and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
