About Etched Carnelian Beads
Era: 2500 BC to 1800 BC
Description: Originating from the Indus Valley Civilization, these carnelian beads were etched with patterns using a plant-derived natron solution and then fired at low temperatures of around 300-400 degrees Celsius. While they have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that these beads were initially crafted in the Indus River basin and transported via land and sea routes.
