About Dzi Beads (Striped Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to Etched Carnelian, they are made by applying natural dyes to agate and then baking them to create intricate patterns. These beads are believed to have been crafted between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. Despite their age, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, making Dzi Beads one of the most enigmatic antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in Bhutan and the Ladakh region of the Himalayas. The patterns are said to hold various meanings, with beads featuring circular "eye" patterns being especially coveted. In Tibetan culture, these beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity and are cherished as heirlooms. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" and many replicas are made using similar techniques. However, authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain highly prized and rare.
