About Warring States Beads:
Warring States Beads (【Warring States Beads】) are glass beads created during the Warring States period of China, from the 5th to the 3rd century BC, before the unification by the Qin dynasty. The earliest glass in China dates back to the 11th to 8th century BC, discovered in Luoyang, Henan province. However, it wasn't until the Warring States period that glass products began to circulate widely.
Early Warring States Beads were primarily made by applying glass patterns to a faience ceramic base. Later, fully glass beads were produced. Many of these beads feature designs such as the "Seven Star Bead" or "Eye Bead," characterized by spotted patterns. Although the glass-making techniques and many design elements were influenced by West Asian regions like those seen in Roman glass, the materials used in Chinese glass from this era differ in composition. This highlights the advanced glass-making techniques of ancient China.
Warring States Beads hold significant historical value as the beginning of China's glass history. They are also highly favored by collectors due to their rich designs and vibrant colors.
