About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian, featuring designs created by burning natural dyes onto agate. It is believed they were made between the 1st and 6th centuries CE. Despite their age, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery. These beads are predominantly found in Tibet but also in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. The patterns, particularly the "eye" motifs, are believed to have different meanings and are highly coveted if in good condition. In Tibetan culture, they are considered talismans for wealth and prosperity and are treasured as heirlooms. Recently, they have gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heaven Beads). While many replicas are made using similar techniques, authentic ancient Dzi Beads are extremely rare and valuable.
