About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi beads are ancient beads from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian beads, they are created by firing natural dyes onto agate to form intricate patterns. These beads are believed to date back to the 1st to 6th centuries AD. Despite the mystery surrounding the exact components of the dyes used, Dzi beads are a fascinating and enigmatic antique. While predominantly found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas.
The various fired patterns on Dzi beads are believed to hold different meanings, with the round "eye" patterns being particularly revered for their significance. In Tibet, these beads are considered amulets of wealth and prosperity, often passed down through generations and cherished as ornaments. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" and many replicas are produced using similar techniques. However, authentic ancient Dzi beads remain highly prized for their rarity.
