About Dzi Beads:

Dzi beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian, featuring patterns created by baking natural dyes onto agate. They are believed to date from around the 1st to 6th centuries CE. Despite their age, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery. Primarily found in Tibet, these beads are also discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. Each bead's pattern, especially those with the "eye" motif, carries different meanings and is highly valued. In Tibet, Dzi beads are treasured as talismans of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and cherished as adornments. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), leading to a proliferation of replicas. However, original ancient Dzi beads remain exceedingly rare and coveted.
