About Dzi Beads (Striped Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, these beads are designed by firing natural dyes onto agate to create patterns. It is believed they were made approximately between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used in the firing process remains a mystery, adding to the intrigue of these antique beads. Primarily discovered in Tibet, they are also found in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. Each bead's pattern holds different meanings, with the circular "eye" designs being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are cherished as talismans for wealth and prosperity and are carefully passed down through generations as treasured adornments. In recent years, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu." Replicas made using similar techniques are also widely available, but the original ancient Dzi Beads are extremely rare and highly valued.
