About Dzi Beads (Chongyi Dzi Beads):

Dzi beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, these beads are agates designed with patterns created by firing natural dyes onto them. It is believed that they were made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact components of the dyes used in the firing process remain a mystery, adding to the enigmatic nature of these antique beads. While primarily discovered in Tibet, Dzi beads have also been found in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. The different patterns created by the firing process are thought to imbue the beads with various meanings, with the circular "eye" patterns being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi beads are cherished as protective amulets symbolizing wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and highly valued as adornments. In recent years, their popularity has also surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" and replicated using similar techniques. However, authentic ancient Dzi beads remain incredibly rare and highly sought after.
