About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, these beads are created by baking natural dyes onto agate to form intricate designs. It is believed that they were made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to the allure of these antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas, such as Ladakh. The different patterns baked onto the beads are thought to imbue them with various meanings, with the "eye" motif being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are cherished as talismans for wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and highly valued as adornments. Recently, there has been a surge in popularity in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" (heavenly beads), and many replicas made with similar techniques have emerged. However, authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain exceedingly rare and sought after.
