About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, they are designed with patterns by baking natural dyes onto agate. It is believed that these beads were created between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their enigmatic allure. While predominantly found in Tibet, Dzi Beads have also been discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Different baked patterns on the beads are thought to have various meanings, with the round "eye" designs being particularly prized. In Tibet, these beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity and have been cherished as heirlooms. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" and many replicas are produced using similar techniques. Authentic ancient Dzi Beads, however, are extremely rare and highly valued.
