About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to Etched Carnelian, these beads are agate decorated with natural dyes through a baking process to create intricate patterns. They are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th century CE. Despite their ancient origins, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their enigmatic charm. While primarily found in Tibet, Dzi Beads have also been discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. Different baked patterns on the beads are thought to hold varied meanings, with those adorned with circular "eye" motifs being particularly prized. In Tibetan culture, these beads are cherished as amulets of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations. Recently, their popularity has soared in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), with many replicas produced using similar techniques. However, authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain exceptionally rare and highly valued.
