About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, akin to etched carnelian, created by baking natural dyes into agate to form intricate designs. These beads are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th century AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to the allure of these antique beads. While primarily found in Tibet, Dzi Beads have also been discovered in Bhutan and the Ladakh region of the Himalayas. The different baked patterns are thought to hold various meanings, with the round "eye" patterns being particularly prized for their excellent condition. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered amulets for wealth and prosperity and are cherished as valuable heirlooms. Recently, they have gained popularity in China under the name "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), with numerous replicas created using similar techniques. However, authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain highly rare and sought after.
