About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian beads, created by baking natural dyes onto agate to form patterns. These beads are believed to have been made from the 1st to the 6th century AD. Despite their age, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their intrigue. Primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Each pattern on a Dzi Bead is thought to have a different meaning, with the "eye" pattern being particularly prized for its good condition and popularity. In Tibetan culture, these beads are considered talismans for wealth and prosperity, cherished and passed down through generations. Recently, they have also gained popularity in China, known as "Tianzhu" (天珠), and many replicas using similar techniques are now available. Genuine ancient Dzi Beads, however, remain highly rare and valuable.
