About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian beads, these are crafted by baking natural dyes onto agate to create intricate designs. It is believed that they were made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, making these beads one of the most enigmatic antique artifacts. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in regions such as Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. The various patterns baked onto these beads are said to hold different meanings, with the round "eye" motifs being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are regarded as talismans of wealth and prosperity, often passed down through generations and cherished as valuable adornments. In recent years, they have gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu." Numerous replicas made using similar techniques are now available, but authentic ancient Dzi Beads remain extremely rare and highly sought after.
