About Dzi Beads (Chongzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched carnelian beads. They are made by baking natural dyes into agate, creating unique patterns. These beads are believed to date back to approximately the 1st to 6th century AD. Despite their age, the specific components of the dyes used remain a mystery, adding to their enigmatic allure. Dzi Beads are primarily found in Tibet, but discoveries have also been made in Bhutan and the Ladakh region of the Himalayas. Each pattern is said to hold different meanings, with the "eye" motif being particularly prized. In Tibet, these beads are considered talismans for wealth and prosperity, and they are cherished as heirlooms. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu." While many replicas are made using similar techniques, authentic ancient Dzi Beads are exceedingly rare and highly valued.
