About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet, similar to Etched Carnelian beads. These beads are designed by baking natural dyes onto agate to create unique patterns. It is believed that Dzi Beads were crafted between the 1st and 6th centuries CE. However, much about the dyes used and their composition remains a mystery, making these beads one of the more enigmatic antiquities. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. Each pattern baked onto the beads carries its own significance, with the "eye" motif being particularly valued for its purported protective qualities. In Tibetan culture, these beads are treasured as talismans of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations. Recently, they have also gained popularity in China under the name "Tian Zhu," where modern replicas are commonly produced. Despite this, ancient Dzi Beads remain incredibly rare and highly prized.
