About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to Etched Carnelian, created by baking natural dyes into agate to form patterns. They are believed to have been made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. The exact composition of the dyes used in the baking process remains a mystery, making Dzi Beads one of the most enigmatic antique beads. Though primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in Bhutan and regions of the Himalayas such as Ladakh. Different baked patterns are believed to hold different meanings, with the round "eye" pattern being highly coveted for its excellent condition. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity and are cherished as heirlooms. Recently, they have gained popularity in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), and many replicas are made using similar techniques. However, the ancient Dzi Beads remain incredibly rare and valuable.
