About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):
Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, akin to Etched Carnelian beads, created by baking natural dyes into agate to form patterns. They are believed to have been made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD, although the exact composition of the dyes remains a mystery. Primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Different baking patterns are thought to hold various meanings, with the circular "eye" patterns being particularly prized. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered amulets of wealth and prosperity, cherished and passed down through generations as valuable adornments. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu." While many replicas are produced using similar techniques, authentic ancient Dzi Beads are extremely rare and highly valued.
