Product Description: Discover the exquisite beauty of this strand of full uranium glass beads from the Czech Republic, also known as Bohemian glass. These Vaseline beads were crafted approximately 100 years ago for export to African countries. True to their name, Vaseline beads feature a semi-transparent and glossy appearance reminiscent of petroleum jelly. This particular strand showcases a stunning jelly-like composition with layered clear blue and clear yellow beads. Notably, each bead is made entirely of uranium glass, which fluoresces brilliantly under black light. Created during a very limited production period, this piece offers a unique glimpse into the history of Bohemian glassmaking.

About Other Trade Beads:

During the African slave trade era, beads were fervently cherished by kings and nobles as decorative items. Produced extensively in Venice and the Czech Republic (Bohemian glass), these beads were traded globally, including in Africa, for slaves, gold, ivory, and other valuables. The manufacturing techniques for these glass beads were highly confidential, to the extent that craftsmen were prohibited from leaving their workshops freely. Unlike those made for the European market, these beads were meticulously crafted to cater to the preferences of various tribes, resulting in a vibrant array of large and small, patterned and plain beads.
