About Other Trade Beads:

Trade beads were highly prized by African royalty and nobility during the era of the African slave trade. These beads were extensively produced in Venice and the Czech Republic (Bohemian glass) and traded globally for slaves, gold, ivory, and more. The manufacturing techniques were closely guarded secrets, with artisans often restricted from leaving their workshops. Unlike the beads made for European markets, trade beads were crafted to match the distinct preferences of various African tribes, resulting in an array of designs, including large and small beads, patterned or plain varieties.
