About Dzi Beads (Chongzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to Etched Carnelian, they are crafted by burning natural dyes onto agate to create intricate patterns. It is believed that these beads were made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their enigmatic allure. While primarily found in Tibet, they have also been discovered in Bhutan and the Himalayan region of Ladakh. Different burned patterns convey various meanings, with the circular "eye" motif being highly prized for its condition. In Tibet, these beads are cherished as amulets of wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and valued as ornamental treasures. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads). Numerous replicas utilizing similar techniques are widespread, but ancient Dzi Beads remain extremely rare and valuable.
