About Ancient Chinese Warring States Beads:

Warring States Beads, known as "戦国玉" (Sengoku-dama) in Japanese, were created during the Warring States period of China, roughly from the 5th to 3rd century BCE, before the unification by Qin. The earliest Chinese glass artifacts date back to the 11th to 8th century BCE, found in Luoyang, Henan Province. However, widespread glass production began during the Warring States period. Early Warring States beads were primarily made by applying glass patterns on faience (a type of ceramic), and later, fully glass beads started to appear. Common designs include the "Seven Star Beads" and "貼眼玉" (Eye Beads) characterized by dot patterns. Despite the influence of Roman glass and designs from Western Asia, the materials used in Chinese glass from this era are distinct, showcasing the advanced glass-making techniques of ancient China. These beads are highly valued not only for their historical significance but also for their intricate designs and vibrant colors, attracting many collectors.
