About Myanmar Pumtek Beads:

Pumtek beads are treasured heirlooms of the Chin people, an ethnic minority living in the northwestern part of Myanmar (formerly Burma) and northern India. The name "Pumtek" means "buried lightning," reflecting the beads' esteemed value among the Chin as symbols of wealth and status, believed to possess hidden powers. These beads, said to have been passed down for approximately 2000 years, are crafted from fossilized wood known as "petrified wood" sourced from Burma. They are intricately etched and patterned using plant-based dyes. While new replicas of Pumtek beads are available, the antique beads passed down through generations remain exceedingly rare and valuable.
