About Dzi Beads (Chong Dzi Beads):

Dzi Beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched carnelian, they are designed by baking natural dyes onto agate. These beads are believed to have been made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their enigmatic allure. Though primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Different baked designs carry various meanings, with the round "eye" patterns being particularly coveted. In Tibet, these beads are cherished as talismans for wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations and prized as adornments. In recent years, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" (Heavenly Beads), leading to the creation of numerous replicas using similar techniques. Genuine ancient Dzi Beads, however, remain extremely rare and highly valued.
