About MALAIKA Made in Japan:
Malaika's knitwear is spun from high-quality Australian wool in Yamagata, dyed, and knitted in Fukushima. Once home to 250 knit factories, Fukushima now hosts only eight due to the influx of foreign products and the impact of natural disasters. Yet, skilled artisans alongside world-class Japanese knitting machines continue to uphold their passion for craftsmanship.
Having experienced knitwear from China, Peru, Nepal, and beyond, Malaika reaffirms the unique beauty and strength of "Japanese knitwear." Delivering garments made from 100% carefully selected wool, where accumulated skills and pride are woven into each piece, Malaika presents them to you.
About Bamileke Fabric:
This item uses "Ndop," an indigo-dyed fabric from the Bamileke tribe in western Cameroon, Central Africa. It's traditionally used as a backdrop for royal ceremonies and harvest festivals, and as a wrap for the wives and attendants of the royal palace. The fabric is made by sewing narrow strips of handwoven cotton together and then indigo-dyeing them. Men draw patterns on the fabric, while women stitch these patterns with raffia fibers before the dyeing process. The designs range from symbols of royal rooms and temples to motifs representing farmland and animals.
