About MALAIKA:
The name "MALAIKA" translates to "angel" in Swahili. Based on the traditional materials and craftsmanship inherited from Asia, Africa, and South America, MALAIKA is dedicated to conveying the warmth of handmade work. It embraces traditional techniques like block printing, hand embroidery, hand weaving, natural dyeing, and tie-dye from various countries, celebrating the local culture and craftsmanship.
About Bagru Print:
Known as a hallmark of the Rajasthan region in India, Bagru print originates from the village of Bagru near Jaipur. For centuries, the villagers have preserved their traditional techniques, continuing to produce beautiful cotton fabrics. The method involves carving wooden blocks by hand and using them to apply patterns, one color at a time, similar to stamping. The number of colors used equates to additional labor and time, reflecting the dedication to craftsmanship. The slight imperfections such as smudges, bleedings, and pattern misalignments are a testament to the warmth and authenticity of Indian handcrafting.
